For decades the Meatpacking District was a center for New York City's slaughter and meatpacking industry. Beginning in the early 1990s, the Meatpacking District went through a formidable transformation; today, high-end clothing stores and restaurants together with trendy bars cater to young professionals and "hipsters." This, coupled with still-active meatpacking companies in the area, contribute to the area's "gritty glam" appeal. In 2004, New York magazine called the Meatpacking District "New York’s most fashionable neighborhood." The Meatpacking District has also become one of the most popular nightlife spots in recent years.

More commonly known simply as The Village, this is, indeed, the quietest part of New York City - until night falls. In the daytime, vines line small, point-roofed houses and restaurants. Nearly empty pubs are on every corner, and street signs are on brown metal rather than green. Greenwich Village is one of the oldest civilian-friendly places in New York. It has been lived in for over two hundred years, first by settlers off the Mayflower, then colonial families, and so forth. Don't let this village's warm, cozy feel fool you. Come evening, and it is lousy with tourists and otherwise people interested in dancing, drinking or song or any combination of the three. It's not uncommon to trip over drunken men as you tour the streets. Then again, scarcely anything is uncommon in New York.

Chelsea has recently become a melting pot of many cultures. Above 23rd Street, by the Hudson River, the neighborhood is industrial or post-industrial, featuring the newly-hip High Line that follows the river all through Chelsea. Eighth Avenue is a center for gay culture, and from 20th to 22nd street between Ninth and Tenth avenue, mid-nineteenth century brick and brownstone townhouses are still occupied, a few even restored to private use. Since the mid-1990s, Chelsea has become a center of the New York art scene, as an increasing number of art galleries have moved there from SoHo. From 16th Street to 27th Street, between 10th and 11th Avenues, there are more than 200 art galleries that are home to modern art from upcoming artists and respected artists as well. Of course, it is still most famed for the fantastic Chelsea Piers.

Park Avenue (formerly Fourth Avenue) is a wide boulevard that carries traffic north and south in Manhattan in New York City. The thoroughfare is noted for its perennially high real estate prices and affluent reputation, especially as it runs through the Upper East Side. Here you can find everything from luxury real estate to fine restaurants to lovely clothing shops and all else in between.

Also known as Museum Mile, this famed street facing Central Park is known as the most expensive real estate in the entire city, and is home to many famous flagship stores, tourist attractions, and more.

Located on its own island just off the coast of Long Island itself, this is one of the nicest beaches in the city's local area. Just a bus ride away over the bridge, take delight in this weekend mini-road trip.

Okay, so this isn't exactly out of town per say, but it's one of the best ways to get out of town. Expect to see a lot of tearful farewells and joyous homecomings here.

The cellular phone, the greatest invention since sliced bread and a big upgrade from the telegram. Keep your phonebook updated with the numbers of everyone who's anyone and stay in touch where you need it: right at your thumbs.

Go ahead, post pictures and write down your thoughts: show off pictures of yourself, your friends, your family, whatever the hell you want to. This is where you can be as vain as you want, and be as sweet or as cruel as you please with your comments to others.

In front of the school, there is a bulletin board where you can post fliers and news. This board is great for advertising parties, garage sales, band tryouts, funerals, and so much more. It's basically the best way to reach out to the student body, but watch out what you post on here-- the faculty of Marrimont check this notice board every once in a while!
